Chrishan
Born Christopher Chrishan Dotson in Toledo, Ohio, and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Chrishan’s musical journey began early. He attended the High School for Recording Arts (HSRA), where he honed his craft, learning piano and guitar by ear. His father, a talented musician who worked with icons like Prince (the inspiration behind Chrishan’s nickname) and Mint Condition, led a family band that included Chrishan’s uncle, Lyfe Jennings. This rich musical upbringing laid the foundation for Chrishan’s mastery of both songwriting and production. Chrishan first made waves with Little Mix’s “Wings,” a platinum-certified, chart-topping hit in the UK. He followed that with a string of #1 radio records, including Chris Brown’s “Party” and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie’s “Look Back at It.” These hits cemented Chrishan’s reputation as the man behind the curtain, crafting anthems that dominated airwaves while staying out of the spotlight.
A master of crafting standout songs, Chrishan has delivered some of the most impactful music in recent years. He produced and co-wrote Meek Mill’s “Dangerous,” a #1 rhythmic and urban radio smash. Chrishan was the mastermind behind 12 tracks for the albums, including “Burn,” the first song recorded for the project. His ability to create cohesive, standout bodies of work is further exemplified by his contributions to Chris Brown’s Heartbreak on a Full Moon album, where he wrote 19 tracks and Tink’s Pillow Talk, where he wrote 7 tracks. Even as an
artist, Chrishan remains a mystery—his song “Sin City” has gone viral countless times, amassing over 150 million streams and inspiring more than 4 million TikTok videos, further proving that his voice can captivate audiences without needing a face.
Chrishan’s influence extends beyond songwriting and production. As the co-founder of Makasound Records, he has cultivated a new generation of talent while continuing to innovate behind the scenes. His ability to stay in the shadows while leaving an indelible mark on the industry has drawn comparisons to the legendary Rod Temperton, known as “the invisible man” of music.
Chrishan’s story is a testament to the power of letting the music speak for itself. An undeniable force with an unmatched legacy, he remains a figure of mystery whose work defines the sound of today while laying the foundation for the music of tomorrow.
